New Jersey’s Transportation Trust Fund provides millions of dollars every year to counties and municipalities for local infrastructure projects. This includes Bergen County, which has received over $18 million in NJTTF aid in the last couple of years. But with the NJTTF unfunded, the county and towns have been forced to place 17 projects on hold, including the Eighth Street Bridge between Wallington and the city of Passaic, a century old rail bridge in Ridgefield Park, and others.

Not only are these delays leading to more traffic and more cars damaged by potholes, it’s continuing to put traffic on roads and bridges that are functionally and structurally deficient and will likely cost municipalities more money in the long run as they deal with additional project costs related to the delays.
