On Tuesday, May 27, and Wednesday, May 28, the NJ Expo Center will resound with hammers, trowels, welders, and heavy operating equipment as the union construction industry hosts Construction Industry Career Day (CICD).
CICD is a two-day event that invites students, parents, educators, jobseekers, and the public to explore dozens of construction-related exhibits and demonstrations that reveal a challenging and rewarding career, while attendees learn about the many professions in the industry, including salaries, benefits, stackable credentials, and educational opportunities.
And why is that important in New Jersey? Because construction is such a big part of the State’s economy:
- Construction contributed $29 billion of the State’s 2024 GDP.
- Construction workers’ wages in New Jersey in 2024 averaged $79,560, 25% higher than the US average.
- Construction employment in New Jersey in March 2025 totaled 165,700.
- Nationally, construction employed 8.3 million workers in that same timeframe.
With the influx of Federal funding coming to New Jersey during the next 10 years, New Jersey needs a continuing flow of skilled employees – on both the management and the craftworker side. CICD is an exciting, hands-on, fun-filled venue that engages visitors with the various union construction trades.
We invite the media to join us for the Tuesday Night Showcase, open to the public from 3 to 7 pm, and for Wednesday’s High School Day, 8 am to 1 pm, when more than 2,000 high school students will descend on the Expo Center in Edison!
Do live shots and take photos…talk to exhibitors and visitors…
Even take YOUR turn at setting brick or operating a virtual crane!
