Infrastructure #NJTTF

ELEC Supports a Long-Term, Robust Transportation Trust Fund Dedicated to Capital Improvements

New Jersey’s transportation infrastructure is the fabric that binds us together, getting us to work and play, getting goods to market, and getting us home after a long day. It facilitates the growth of business which generates jobs and economic activity that benefits all.

For years, the infrastructure was maintained by a combination of federal, state, and local funds, but now the primary source of state funding, the Transportation Trust Fund (TTF), is on the verge of bankruptcy. This didn’t happen overnight. For years, the TTF has been poorly funded, relying too much on borrowing instead of “pay as you go” capital and to make matters worse, money has been taken from the TTF to cover budget shortfalls elsewhere. And while these shenanigans in Trenton continue, our roads continue to deteriorate, our commutes get longer, our car repair bills grow, and somewhere in the state a bridge edges one day closer to catastrophic failure.
Enough. Enough paying for our roads and bridges with a credit card. Enough robbing from Peter to pay Paul. It’s time we fix the TTF.

ELEC implores Trenton to find a long-term fix for the TTF that is dedicated to capital improvements.
